Lee’s Personal Story with Meditation
When I first stepped into the world of meditation, I had constant chatter in my inner world. I was stressed, I had any number of ongoing chronic health issues and the monkey mind of my Type A personality had no relief.
I wanted the benefits and experiences I had heard about with meditators but the idea of sitting crisscross applesauce for 30 minutes in silence seemed deafening and unreachable. But, I had to try. However, before I could attempt this process, I had to prepare the room.
• Move out all the furniture
• Acquire the right artwork
• Soft curtains
• Statuary (Buddha of course)
• Command silence
• Wait for stars to align!
And what do you think happened? A deluge of chatter and resistance.
I was trying to achieve meditation! I was trying to accomplish meditation! I was trying to conquer meditation!
And meditation is the antithesis of those. It is the surrender and the allowance of the practice of silence or of being still.
There are many forms and techniques of meditation to explore. As with all my offerings I encourage you to move in the direction of what your inner gut or intuition guides you to do. What I found that worked for me and with my students is a combination of guided imagery, Mindfulness practice and silence. This is what I predominantly focus on in my teaching.
Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years to help transcend the mind of chatter that is stress filled thought and which produces physical implications within the body that are less than optimal. Meditation can help improve your health and well-being as well as promote the following in your life:
